We were very impressed, I truly did not expect that it would be possible to speak with some of the best known names in the F1 circuit, and that they would be so
friendly and touchable. F1corporate made the event truly special and the tour guides were very attentive and accommodated our every desire. Our time in the paddock was very successful and something we will never forget. It was truly the best time of our lives. Thank you so much for the picture you took while we where in the paddock area, we will treasure them for the rest of our lives. Your team has done excellent work to and presented us with an unforgettable

General News Report of the official Malaysian F1 GP Organizer

With increase in race attendance to 107,634 spectators this year, Malaysia’s F1 organisers Sepang International Circuit (SIC) and its partners has taken the eight-year old Formula One Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix to a new level; enhancing its importance as a national agenda, a tourism tool and a strategy to promote motorsports in Malaysia.  "Formula One in Malaysia has always been more than just a race. And, we really showed that this year at the eighth edition of the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix,” says SIC General Manager Datuk Ahmad Mustafa, who is also the event director. "Without doubt, the success for this year was brought about by a combination of many factors. But, the strongest factor would definitely be our association with Tourism Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur City Hall and efforts of the new Federal Territories Minister Datuk Zulhasnan Rafique," he said.

"Together, the F1 race in Sepang and the Kuala Lumpur Grand Prix City programme have perfect chemistry," said Ahmad, adding that SIC would continue to explore opportunities and prospects within that collaboration to make the 2007 even more successful. The city of Kuala Lumpur hosted various activities under the GP City programme including the KLGP Mega Sale Carnival, the F1 Passport, the Sights and Sound of Kuala Lumpur, the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix Spring Gala, BMW Heritage Car Demonstration and various F1-related parties and fan gatherings during the race week to liven up the race.

"All these events had been promoted aggressively internationally by Tourism Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur City Hall and that had helped us in pulling the foreign spectators for the race as well as local fans from other the other states. I know for a fact that we had a huge turnout of fans from Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia," said Ahmad. With the attendance of 107,634, the 2006 Formula One Petronas Malaysian Grand became the highest attended F1 race in Sepang; surpassing last year’s figure of 106,422 people. And, some 40 percent of the spectators were foreign tourists. "We were not able to reach that targeted 120,000 spectators; but we are very satisfied with the attendance for this year. But, more importantly, the event proceeded smoothly without any untoward incident. That’s the most important thing," he said. Formula One supremo Bernie Eccelstone, who is President of Formula One Management (FOM), was on hand at the track to oversee the running of the event and accompanied Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi during his visit to the pits. "Our efforts to bring in more students and youths to the circuit also showed impressive response. We want them to continue coming to the circuit because the students are actually the future of Malaysia’s motorsports."

"We need to make them interested in the sports so that they would become actively involved in the future. This is simply because we urgently need the grassroot interest to grow to develop the sports in Malaysia," he said. For the first time this year, SIC introduced a special RM25 ticket for students to allow them entry at Hillstand G for three days to catch the event live the circuit and personally feel the excitement and thrill of motor racing. At the race track, the 2006 Formula One Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix was an event to remember for all especially for nine-year old leukemia patient Sharath Suresh, who had his dream come through of meeting his idol Michael Schumacher.
